LA4712: Infrastructure, Natural Systems, and The Space of Inhabited Landscapes
One of the most promising solutions to climate change and environmental degradation is the re-design our cities and infrastructure into generative systems that provide food, clean water, energy, and other resources. Integrating ecological systems and the built environment has the potential our cities and societies for the better. This seminar will be a cross-disciplinary exploration of infrastructural solutions to mitigating and reversing the anthropogenic impacts to our planet.
This upper level/graduate course will provide an overview of the evolving science, policy options, and design methods required to pursue further professional practice and academic interests in this emerging topic and to become active global citizens.

LA3003: Case Studies in Landscape Design and Planning
This course introduces five core aspects of sustainable landscape design and planning; ecology, design, materials, policy and community. Working from site to regional scales, we will evaluate case studies through the lens of larger issues and systems, including infrastructure, urban water cycle, transportation, energy, health, food systems, innovation, and metrics. Studies of plans, processes and projects focused on development, deployment and management of sustainable design and planning practices will ground students’ understanding of sustainability.
Course Prerequisites: LA 1301, LA 2301, LA 3001. Minimum of concurrent enrollment in LA 2302 and LA 3002
