Landscape Architecture College of Design

Master of Landscape Architecture

MLA I

The Master of Landscape Architecture (MLA) is our accredited professional degree. An accredited professional degree is required to become a licensed landscape architect in the state of Minnesota and throughout the United States. The MLA program introduces students to the practice and discipline of landscape architecture, providing them with the ecological, artistic, technical, and communication skills necessary to practice in the profession and in other environmental fields.

MLA II

The two-year Master of Landscape Architecture (MLA II) is designed for students who already possess an accredited undergraduate degree in landscape architecture. The MLA II advances students' knowledge in practice and discipline of landscape architecture, providing them with the ecological, artistic, technical, and communication skills necessary to excel in the profession and in other environmental fields. Students are admitted to the two-year program upon approval of the Director of Graduate Studies.

Curriculum

In the program, students work on sites at increasingly larger scales and levels of complexity and explore new technical skills and knowledge through their design solutions. Students have the option of studying abroad in the Cities on Water program that addresses issues of water and global climate change. In the final studio, students pursue independent design projects defined by their interests and passions.
