Dual MLA/MURP

This option allows students to earn both a Master of Landscape Architecture [MLA] and a Master of Urban and Regional Planning [MURP] by careful coordination of coursework. Typically, students will be able to achieve both professional degrees in three and a half to four years by cross-counting specified courses. The specific MURP specializations for which this option is most appropriate are land use/urban design, housing and community development, and environmental planning.

To meet the [LAAB] standards, 88 graduate credits are required to earn an MLA, including 36 credits of landscape architecture studio courses, 3 credits of research issues and methods, 9 elective credits (which may be chosen from a list of selected MURP program courses), and 40 credits of history, theory, and technology courses. A maximum of 18 credits taken to fulfill MURP degree requirements may also be counted toward fulfillment of the MLA degree requirements. Please refer to the Urban and Regional Planning program for MURP degree requirements.

The program requires acceptance to both the MLA program in the College of Design and the MURP program in the Humphrey Institute of Public Policy. Students must also apply to the MURP program through the Humphrey Institute of Public Policy.
